For families that just decades earlier were torn apart by chattel slavery, being photographed together was proof of their resilience.It's that duality of welcoming immigrants, as well as our fear of the changing demographics that has made us who we are.
These people cannot give up their faith.
They fought - they fought for decades.
It is a remarkable resilience.
